契約書翻訳の視点から基本的な単語・用語を使って作成した例文を通して（法律文を除く）、英文契約書で使われる日にち、期日および期間についての使いかたを簡単に見てみます。。
英文契約書に限らず、契約書では、日にち、期日および期間が重要な要素です。例えば、ある契約がいつから開始して、いつ終了するのか、契約期間が終了した後、その契約を延長することがあるのか、その方法とは、代金の支払い日はいつか、代金をいつまでに振り込むか等、日にちについて、これらを含め、さまざまな重要な事柄があります。
1. 日にち、期日および期間の表わす単語・用語のいくつか
accounting year: 会計年度
accounting period:会計期間
base date:基準日
business day:営業日
calendar day:暦日
calendar year: 暦年
calculation date: 算定基準日、起算日
commencement date：開始日；start date
due date：支払い期日、債務履行期日、納期、弁済期、期日、期限
effective date:発効日
effective period: 有効期間
expiration date: 満了日
fixed date: 確定日
holiday：休日
maturity date：償還期日
payment date：支払日
ここにある言葉と他の言葉を組み合わせたものを含め、これらのほかにも、さまざまな日にちや期間を表す言葉があります。（例：due date for the payment：弁済期限、claim with a due date：期限付債権、uncertain due date：不確定期限 the delivery due date:納品期日）
2. 契約の開始日および契約期間の例
英文契約書に限ら、契約書で期日および期間の例として、思い浮かぶのは「契約開始日と満了日」についての記載です。
The effective period of this Agreement shall be from xx xx, 2023 to xx xx, 2024.
This Agreement shall last for one (1) year from the date of the execution of this Agreement.
This Agreement shall commence from the effective date and expire after three (3) years therefrom.
This Agreement shall come to in effect on xx xx, 20xx and shall remain in effect for three (3) years unless sooner terminated pursuant to the terms hereof.
This Agreement shall be effective from the 1st of January, 20xx and remain in full force for the period of xx years from that date.
This agreement shall be in effect for a period of five (5) years, from xx xx, 20xx to xx xx, 20xx.
契約の期間については、以前、英文契約書の条項 一般条項：「Definition（定義）」と「Term（期間）」で取り上げことがあります。
3. 支払い期日等についての例のいくつか
The Seller shall deliver the Products to the Buyer’s warehouse by the delivery due date and the Buyer shall pay the prices of the Products specified in the Exhibit of this Agreement by the due date after inspecting the Products. （売主は納品期日までに製品を買主の倉庫に引き渡すものとし、買主は製品を検査した後、期日までに本契約の別紙に指定された製品の代金を支払う）
If this Agreement is terminated, all sum of due by the Buyer to the Seller shall be immediately due and payable regardless of the due date specified in this Agreement and the Buyer shall immediately pay them. (本契約が終了した場合、本契約に指定されている期日に関係なく、買主が売主に支払うべき全額が直ちに支払われるものとし、買主は直ちにこれらを支払う)
In this case, the date of the public notice is deemed to be the fixed date.
（この場合においては、当該公告の日付をもって確定日付とする）（保険業法）
4. その他の日にちの例のいくつか
The User shall pay the Fee of subscription under this Agreement within ten (10) business days after receipt of the invoice issued by the Service Provider.
